JNU School Life of Sciences - Courses

The School of Life Sciences is among the first interdisciplinary programs of study in modern biology in the country. The School was established in 1970 and offers M.Sc. and M.Phil/Ph.D. degrees in Life Sciences. The programs are periodically reviewed for necessary modification.

The School keeps equipped labs, adequate collection of text books, access to internet, Central Instruments Facility housing capital instruments like ultracentrifuges, spectrophotometers, CDORD, spectrofluorementer, HPLC, phosphorimager, gas chrmoatograph, water purification systems, small animal stereotaxic surgical facility, oscilloscope and polygraph for electrophysiological recording, a gamma chamber, plant tissue culture and animal cell culture facility, green house and a botanical garden to cater to the diverse areas of teaching and research activities. Equipment for Fluorescence Associated Cell Sorting, microarray, and proteomics are in different phases of acquisition and installation. The School is a premier institution funded by UGC under SAP, COSIST, CAS and Excellence grants to pursue fundamental and applied researches in molecular, cellular and organismal biology. The School has also been a recipient of funds from the Department of Science and Technology under the FIST program.
