Japanese Language Programme: The Centre for Japanese and North East Asian Studies (CJNEAS) is the only Centre in the country which offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes in Japanese Studies leading to B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. The CJNEAS offers two independent degree programmes in Japanese and Korean Studies, M.Phil./Ph.D. in Japanese Studies and a part-time certificate and diploma courses in Mongolian Language.

Korean Language Programme: The Korean Language was introduced as a one year Certificate of Proficiency Course in the erstwhile Centre for Afro Asian Languages in 1976. The Programme was upgraded to a two-year pre-degree diploma course in 1977, to a three-year B.A. (Hons) degree course in 1995, and to a five-year integrated M.A. programme in 1998.

Mongolian Language Programme: The Centre also offers a Part-Time one-year Certificate Course of Proficiency and a two-year Diploma Course in Mongolian Language.
The Centre has academic and cultural exchange programmes with various educational institutions and Universities in Japan including Otani University, Reitsumekan University with which JNU has signed MOUs. The Centre has been regularly receiving fellowships for faculty and students. The Centre collaborates with Japan Foundation, Japanese Language Teachers Association of India (JALTAI), Mombusho Scholars Association of India (MOSAI), and Delhi University in organizing seminars, conferences and workshops related to Japanese studies. Similar activities are gradually being initiated in respect with the Korean language as well.

Note:-
Entrance Examination for B.A. IInd year, M.A. and M.Phil. in Japanese shall be conducted in the Japanese language and B.A. IInd year in Korean language shall be conducted in the Korean Language.
