i) Direct Admission to Ph.D. Programme
Category-I : The Centre for Biotechnology carries out research and teaching (Pre-PhD level) in inter-disciplinary areas of Biotechnology.
The current areas of research activities as per faculty specialization are as follows :
Immunology, Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases, Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering, Transcription Control and Gene Regulation, Biophysical Chemistry, Optimization of Recombinant Protein Production, Structural Biology and Bio-Informatics, Biochemical Engineering.
The students are given option of areas of research contingent upon vacancy available and interse merit of the candidate. Selected candidates are admitted in the first instance, to a two semester programme of course work. Satisfactory completion of the pre-PhD course work (earning a minimum 14 credits) and securing a CGPA of 6.5 (for general category students) and 6 (for SC / ST) is a prerequisite for subsequent registration to Ph.D. programme.
Category II (NET Qualified candidates) : Candidates who have qualified for Junior Research Fellowship through CSIR / UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) examination are eligible to apply separately in the prescribed form under this category. Candidates shall have to appear for an interview and their selection will depend on their performance in the interview. Candidates who have appeared at the CSIR / UGC NET examination but results awaited may also apply under this category. However, such candidates will be eligible for being called for the interview provided they submit the CSIR / UGC JRF qualifying certificate within fourteen days of declaration of the results.
