The general objective of this programme is to contribute to building of professional human resources to meet the varied demands for information handling in libraries and information centres in the country. The programme comprises of Core Courses and Elective Courses. The medium of instruction for MLIS programme for the time being is only English.

There will be 6 Core Courses for this programme which are compuslory. The areas covered in the core courses are : Information, Communication and Society, Information Sourses, Systems and Services, Information Processing and Retrieval, Management of Library and Information Centres, and Information Technology. Each core courses is of 4 credits.
