Visa Information

After you have received an unconditional letter of acceptance from a Canadian College or University, you are required to obtain a Student Authorization and Visa. It generally takes two months for the Visa to be processed. Submit the completed application form along with the necessary documents to the immigration section of the Canadian High commission. All the documents submitted must be either original or photocopies notarized and witnessed by a notary public or a magistrate or the Canadian Immigration Officer, and be accompanied by a duplicate copy.

The following documents are required to be submitted along with the Completed Student Application form:

  • Official letter of acceptance from Canadian University, college or technical institute

  • Passport, which must be valid for at least one year from the planned date of entry to Canada

  • Non-refundable Visa processing fee

  • Sufficient funds to cover all your expenses including transportation to and from Canada, tuition fees and a minimum of C$10,000 for your first year's living expenses, in the form of bank statements, affidavits of support, proof of income, tax returns and documentary evidence of scholarships.

Submission of the completed application form is followed by:

  • Interview - An interview with a Canadian Visa Officer may be required. If this is the case, you will be advised in writing of the time and place for the interview.

  • Medical examination - The Canadian high commission will issue medical instructions. Students and accompanying dependants must pass a medical examination.

If you want to study in Quebec, you must obtain a Certificate of Acceptance (CAQ) from the Quebec government in addition to the student authorization. The CAQ applications are available at the CEC and from the institutions in Quebec. Full-time International students are permitted to work on campus (20 hours per week).
