The two-year M.Phil programme aims both at taking forward the approach underlying the M.A. syllabus and at expanding the field of independent work by the students. The duration of the Programme shall ordinarily be two years, one year for completion of the course work (Phase I) and one year for writing the dissertation (Phase II). The maximum period permissible for completion of course work will be 2 years. The maximum period permissible for writing the dissertation will also be 2 years. However, in exceptional cases, an extension of one additional year (making, in all, 5 years from the date of admission) may be granted by the M.Phil Committee. |

M.A. in the language or literature with at least 55% marks or (equivalent grade) or an equivalent Degree of a University |
OR |
M.A. with at least 55% marks or (equivalent grade) in Linguistics, all languages, all literatures or Social Sciences with reference to Area Studies and an Advanced Diploma in the language concerned from Delhi University or an institution recognized thereto. |
Admission Procedure |
All candidates will have to take an Entrance Test (Written and Oral). The test will be held on 12 July 2005. |
